A Eulogy for Death: Part 2
"Please, don't try to be a hero. If you get locked...get the fuck out."
The fleet of Death comes into range of Chowdown's ‘Naglfar’ siege dreadnought.
His pilots launch missile salvos that flare in wide arcs then converge in their dozens on the most symbolic hull in the star cluster.
Chowdown's Shields flash on the first salvo then pop on the second. The third lands with a crack against the ship's exposed Armor. The Armor of Naglfar is tough as untrimmed viking nails, but if it's broken then the very Structure of the ship will begin to break down. Three Health bars. One down, two up.
Death’s voice crackles through the distortion of a mid-2000’s TeamSpeak server,
DEATH - "Armor will be gone soon. Chowdown is nearly in Structure. More pressure!"
Tension is rising as the guns of the dreadnought fleet have adjusted now and are lobbing huge siege rounds in retaliation. Death's window is closing fast as his pilots are picked off.
DEATH - “Please, don't try to be a hero. If you get locked - get the fuck out.”
RED ALLIANCE PILOT - "My gun icons are flashing. They won't reload! It's bugged!"
DEATH - "Who's got the gun reloading bug!? You have to open your cargo menu! Drag and drop ammo from your cargo menu and it will fix it! Chowdown is in Structure!"
In the video Death sent me, this scene is set to A-ha's 'The Sun Always Shines on TV." It might seem an odd choice, but a fast-paced 80s synth-pop ballad with unexpectedly mournful lyrics is actually the perfect soundtrack to a desperate starship attack on a dreadnought called "Nail Farer" led by the forces of Death.
